I don't believe it!!!

I can't quite believe I am going to do this, but it seems I'm going to be walking part of the Camino known as  Santiago de Compestela!!  I dashed off a late night 'tongue in cheek' email to some friends, never really expecting them to take us up on the challenge! But they did! And now I am committed!!

I first came across pilgrimage and the pilgrims badge of the shell, years ago whilst studying Art History with the Open University, and I started to see shells everywhere!  Then about ten years ago there was a programme by the art historian Brian Sewell entitled 'The Naked Pilgrim' that I really loved. Since then we have discovered another film called 'The Way' starring Martin
Sheen and this also whetted my
interest in the Camino.

To walk the complete Camino would mean hiking around 800km and would take a lot of time, to say nothing of the energy and stamina required to complete such a journey.  But if we walk the final 115km from Sarria to Santiago, then we will be counted as pilgrims and as such earn ourselves the certificate and the name of pilgrim!

Our walk will take place over five days and looks a bit like this:

Day 1     -      15 miles
Day 2     -      15 miles
Day 3     -      17.5 miles
Day 4     -      12 miles
Day 5     -      12 miles

This is the first time I will have done any long distance walking!  I hope I can do this!   Getting up and walking these distances on consecutive days will be a challenge to me!  However, we have booked with a travel company who will not only transport our luggage but also pick me up if I find I can't keep walking
and take me to our next stop, where I can wait for my Camino Comrades!!  Hmmmm!!!

David and Olive, are our Camino Comrades!
